Set 5.1 packs a whole lot of design into an eight card expansion. The ~10 minute video review looks at each card individually and assesses power level and synergies. Below you’ll also find my expectations on Constructed and Draft queues.
A brief video review of what I’m expecting from Set 5.1, Darkness Rising:
Windspark Elemental: An instant and major presence in competitive constructed play. Viable with a range of decks that take advantage of its exceptionally powerful effect.
Ambriel Archangel: A build-around with limited competitive impact early and an interesting challenge for deckbuilders interested in maximizing its effect
Malice Hermit: An instant and major presence in competitive constructed play, often paired with Windspark. Gives thematic poison and Yetis a big boost in viability.
Spiritstone Sentry: A build-around with limited competitive impact early and an interesting challenge for deckbuilders interested in maximizing its effect.
Xithian Tormenter: May see some Constructed play in certain aggro or tribal decks. A solid Draft pickup that can be played for a snow-ball effect to put you on the offensive early and limit your opponents’ options.
Ambriel’s Edict: Auto-include in all Alloyin lists? I think this card makes a variety of greedy Alloyin late-game decks more viable, but this may be overshadowed by Windspark Elemental’s huge burst damage potential. Not as interesting for Draft since it will be tougher to time perfectly.
Primordial Invoker: A solid addition to the range of Tempys burn options. Viable in Draft as a blocker with added value. In Constructed it may serve a niche role in some burn decks but will be competing for its spot with other tech.
Stinging Invocation: How can you not play this card? Looking forward to seeing the deck that makes this viable in competitive Constructed play. Draft superstar, no reason not to slam Uterra every time now.
